NIGHT SHIFT NURSE / NIGHT SHIFT SUPERVISOR

Title: Night Shift Nurse / Night Shift Supervisor

Reports to: Shirlee Johnson, Administrator and Director of Guest Wellness, St. Joseph's Home, Los Angeles, California

Supervises: 40 bed senior facility. 6PM to 6AM nightly. Overtime opportunities available regularly due to small staff.

Position Summary: Provides night time care and medical supervision for 40-bed senior facility in South Los Angeles, California. Provides and ensures quality guest care and the promotion of guest wellness. Provides direct nursing services to the guests ensuring optimal health and safety. Supervises off site care clinicians (hemo sessions) and paramedics with after hours patient treatment. Supports and enforces all policies, programs and philosophies of St. Joseph's Home.

Routine Functions of the Position:
* Assist the administrative staff in promoting the wellness of all guests.

* Continually monitor guest needs to be sure they are being met, or at least postponed for a reasonable amount of time.


* Facilitate MedicAde payments from guests to facility. Assist Administrator in coordination of routine MedicAde fund transfers.


* Respond with appropriate actions and urgency to our patented U-Buzz Buzzer System™, which indicates resident illness, injury or complaint. Notifies proper providers and/or supervisors of events by direct and immediate entry of any medical event or complaint within the written Administrator Log.

* Assure that medical orders are implemented within a reasonable amount of time.

* Request medications from Pharmacist and/or Senior Nurse and oversee that medication schedule is maintained for guests requiring medication assistance. Follow policies and procedures for medication system integrity.

* Facilitate scheduling and the transportation to outpatient facilities or physician office visits for guests.

* Maintain effective communication with guests and their families, physicians, pharmacist and proper outside agencies to ensure optimal guest care.

* Protect guest rights, property, and confidential information according to state and federal laws.

* Perform treatments consistent with scope of practice. Consults with DOW and/or administrator to determine whether specific treatments require the use of external resources.

* Without exception, document and maintains all pertinent guest related information according to company policies and regulatory requirements in the written Administrator Log.

* Observe for any signs of guest abuse or neglect. Takes immediate action to prevent harm and report incidents according to company policy and state law.

* Actively protects guest and co-worker safety by recognizing and reporting or taking immediate action to minimize risk of accident or injury.

* Appropriately handle on-the-job injuries reported by co-workers.

* Exhibit a decent amount of knowledge of emergency procedures, or at least a willingness to learn..

* Supervise and direct personal care staff under the direction of the Director of Wellness and Assistant Director of Wellness. Maintains effective communication regarding staff and shift workload challenges.

* Coach, critique, manage, and inspire co-worker performance.

Requirements:
* Ability to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time.
* Ability to stand, sit, walk, kneel, reach, stretch, carry up to 15 lbs., and to support up to 70 lbs. (televisions, etc.)
* Secure proper assistance for transferring and lifting residents as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
* LPN or RN license in state where employed.
* High School diploma or equivalent.
* CPR certified
* Prefer minimum of 30-60 days experience in assisted living or other health care.
* Prior experience in the healthcare industry preferred but not required.
